Hi and Welcome to another "In the Spotlight"
And today we are here to learn more about Sean Faust!

Thank you so much for chatting with us today

How did it all begin? What started your love for music and the urge to create your own?

- My mother and grandmother were excellent pianists and played a lot!  My father's taste in various music kept my mind open to anything.  I remember the music that had the biggest impact on me when I was very very young (think 2 - 5) was the Star Wars soundtrack, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (The Beatles), Hot Rocks Vol. 1 (The Rolling Stones), Beethoven's 4th and 9th symphonies, Queen's soundtrack to Flash Gordon, and a lot more film scores.

I remember enjoying Madonna's tunes when she first came on the radio.  Synchronicity (The Police) and 1984 (Van Halen) were game changers. As years went on I discovered Pink Floyd, Mozart (after being taken to see Amadeus for my birthday the year it came out), Black Sabbath, Queensryche (Operation: Mindcrime still being one of my all time favorite albums to this day), Tesla.... this list can get crazy so I'll take a break from naming artists for now.

I was very into Guns 'N Roses, Metallica, and Queen when my brother introduced me to Dream Theater's album Images & Words in 1992.  I wanted to play keyboards like that!  Not only did they inspire me to play better but I found myself going down the Rush rabbit hole not long after that.

A few years later I was very much into Grateful Dead.  While down that rabbit hole I was introduced to Keys To Ascension (Yes) which I felt was a very art-rock/ prog-rock Grateful Dead sounding album.

So, now that I've given a biography and named a lot of names (my apologies, dear readers), my love for music is always evolving so I can't really say it never stopped starting.  If that even makes any sense.  It does for me, but I'm told I'm weird.

Creating my own music was just a natural step for me.  Now imagine combining all of these influences (among other I've not even named).  Some people tell me to limit myself.  What fun is that?  Do people only listen to one style of music? How boring is that?  I let the songs speak for themselves.  However they turn out is how they were meant to exist in the first place.

What was the first instrument you picked up and do you still play that and what others have you learned along the way?

- I had started piano lessons when I was four years old.  Like any teenage looking to find their way socially, I took a break after moving to a new town when I was 13.  I look back on that as a foolish thing, but as I said, fitting in was important to me then.

I started playing keyboards again around late 1991/ early 1992.  At some point around then I started picking up my brother's guitar and messing around with that as well.  Vocal lessons began in early 1994 since I definitely needed them! I've always enjoyed strumming and singing.  I still do!  I love to create.  Whatever instrument I'm playing becomes a conduit at that moment for whatever music is looking to be released.

Which artist was your biggest inspiration growing up and has that changed over the years and if yes, why?

- Pink Floyd is my favorite.  The atmosphere and texture always draws me in.  The later albums like The Wall and The Final Cut (along with High Hopes on The Division Bell) adding an orchestra to the fold really does it for me as well.

Discovering and falling in love with Phish definitely added a new dimension to music for me.  Here's a band that's also a blending of everything they're inspired by (there's a LOT of progressive rock happening here!) and then brilliantly improvising every night they're on stage.  The past few years they've been taking things to new heights and it's been wonderful to experience!

With fall season just around the corner, is there a season where you feel more inspired?

- I honestly love autumn.  The weather around this time of year (along with early spring) is just perfect.  Not too hot.  Not too cool.  It makes my morning cardio in the park on my bike so wonderful. No phone.  No headphones.  Just the sounds and visuals of nature.  There's a lot of music happening in nature if one stops and really listens.

What are you currently working on?

- I've mapped out what songs I want to finish writing for a full length album.  Some of the basic tracks are done.  Some have been done for a few years now.  I hope to have it released by spring of 2026.  I'm really happy with the direction it's taking too!  It's definitely my blend of alternative and progressive rock as well as a trip back in time to some of my heavier roots.

I'm really excited to bring it all together.  I know.  Everybody says that, don't they?  I sincerely mean it, though. Exploring and incorporating some heavier elements feels like a breath of fresh air to me.

What are your plans for the future?

- I would love to regularly perform some smaller regional tours.  It's not as easy as it sounds and the need for support in this day and age is greater than ever!  I'll keep releasing music and playing at my regular venues, though.  Expansion for some small tours would be wonderful!

Of course, I'm always trying to reach monetary goals with sales of my singles Happy Song and Gin Asylum so I can better the lives of animals.  I'm a big animal lover with four cats at home.  One million sales of each song is the ultimate goal.  It won't make me a millionaire after all is said and done but it will give me a financial cushion to freely give money to animal caretakers, feed feral/ stray cat colonies, donate to animal shelters and private animal rescue facilities in dire need, etc.

There are always animals in need of love and support.  I love to help out.  They are my main purpose in life! Adopt!  Don't shop!

What is the one thing you would like your fans to know?

- Your support is everything! Share the posts!  Come to shows!  Buy the music!  I appreciate you being with me through all of this and I love you so much! Sincerely!

To quote the great Mikey Mason, "If you don't support the things you love, they go away."

What is the one thing you would like the music industry to know?

- Streaming ISN'T where it's at.  It doesn't allow for anybody to make a living.  What happened to artist development? Support?
I could go on.  It's not just the fault of the industry.
People will spend $15/ month for ad-free and unlimited streaming.  These same people never would have spent that much on music each month before streaming.
There's got to be a way to get through to people.
Give music value again!

And that was my chat with Sean Faust
And this is also why I Love writing interview.
To get to know the artist and what made them who they are and how the view things.
I hope you found it as interesting as I did.
