The first thing I noticed was the eye-catching look.
And he has one of the coolest logos I've seen in quite a while.
And then I heard the music.
Welcome to the Spotlight GrimRock!
Thank you for chatting with us today.
GrimRock, give us the story behind the look and name.
- The look came from a Halloween costume from many years ago. I wore it at a work party and would walk up behind people and grunt. It disturbed many people and I decided that I would use it again one day. Three versions and many years later, my current look is based off the original costume. The name 'Grim' is my nickname. I actually wanted to do a business with the name Grim in it. I even had a logo (the current logo) and the name GrimRock LTD. I did nothing with that, but kept GrimRock for my band name.
Growing up. When did you realize that it was music that was your passion?
- It all comes down to a single 45 that was in my dad's basement.
It was by and band called Shadows of Knight and the track was Gloria.
It was actually a version called Gloria 69 with heavily overdubbed fuzzy guitars and once I heard that, I wanted to be a musician.
If you could describe your sound in 5 words, what would they be?
- Pittsburgh Powered Rock And Roll
Dropping a new album or getting up on stage, which makes you more excited?
- Getting up on stage for me.
After recording an album and listening to it so many times myself, it is more rewarding playing it for people to get their reactions and let them hear it for their first time or many times if they follow you show to show.
If you could choose one of your songs for new fans to listen to, which would you pick?
- I would pick the track, Dontcha. Not only is the track catchy, my album cover model is in the official video as well.
What are you currently working on?
- I have a new album coming out at some point called, To Cast A Shadow.
I will be going into the studio the first part of September to record the leadoff single to be released on Golden Robot Records / Robot Distro hopefully by Halloween.
I will also have a video to release the same day as the track and will feature a tattoo model from the Pittsburgh area.
What is the one thing you would like your fans to know?
- That I appreciate all of the support they give me and I look forward to giving them the best experience I can whether it is live shows or new music.
What is the one thing you would like the music industry to know?
- To the up-and-coming musicians, there will be a lot of challenges you will face.
Keep your head up and push hard because in this industry, the word 'no' means 'next opportunity' and the word 'yes' is just around the corner if you stay persistent.
